5 Ways To Enjoy Valentine’s Day As A Single

It’s that time of the year again, where all the couples come out of hiding to parade their love for one another in way of inconveniently sized teddy bears and overpriced flowers. Whilst you may be conflicted with both loving and hating Valentine’s Day, your relationship status shouldn’t hold you back from still being able to enjoy the day to some degree.

Here are 5 tips to ensure that you get to celebrate February the 14th  in your own way instead of wishing it away:

1. Remember this is just a day, not an achievement

The pressure that Valentine’s Day can bring is enormous, and for some it can feel like you have failed in some way if you have no one to celebrate it with. Try to keep things in perspective, this day is just a celebration of love, not an actual achievement or test to see whether or not you are worthy of love.

2. Plan to have some fun

Feeling sad and sorry for yourself on any occasion is a wasted day. Just because you are single and haven’t found that someone special yet, does not mean you can’t celebrate in your own way. To take the emotion and overwhelm out of the day, plan something fun in advance so you have something to look forward to.

3. Get involved in group activities

Just because you are single doesn’t mean you have to spend the day alone. Get a group of friends together or make an effort to join any particular group on Meetup where you can socialise, have fun or even learn new skills!

4. Spoil yourself

There is no better time to date yourself than on Valentine’s Day. The day is traditionally about celebrating love, so make it about celebrating self-love. You don’t have to have a partner to make you feel special, mastering the art of happiness whilst being single is a skill that will set you up to be in a healthy relationship.

5. Have an Anti-Valentine’s Day party

If you have a sense of humour and really want to turn this day to your advantage, then why not create your own social event for singles and couples who don’t see value in this Hallmark holiday. It’s not about being negative, but instead finding a creative way to turn it into something fun regardless of marital status.

And remember there is nothing wrong for either wanting to indulge your romantic side or completely boycott the idea all together.
